Reception hall of the taifa era

Reception hall of the taifa era

This hall was built in the 11th Century, during the so-called “Taifa of Seville”. The palace became the seat of the governor. Plastering works dating from the Taifa and Almohad eras have been recently discovered. These works show the richness of the hall. Friezes with cusped arches, as well as inscriptions, vegetal and geometric decoration and legendary creatures decorated it.
There was a fountain with a basin and a jet in the centre of the portico. This room was used by the governors of Cordoba as a reception and ceremony hall of the court from the 11th to the 14th centuries. It was also used by the kings of Castile.
